“Joe Turner” Opens In Los Angeles

“Joe Turner’s Dead and Gone,” by August Wilson, is one of my favorite plays, so I wish I could see this production, starring John Douglas Thompson (foreground) in Los Angeles. Variety says: ‘Helmer Phylicia Rashad delivers a splendid revival of August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” at L.A.’s Mark Taper Forum. Thesps Keith David, Glynn Turman and John Douglas Thompson take a radically different approach to each of their assignments on stage, and that’s as it should be, but Rashad weaves those performances into a seamless acting tapestry, along with notable work from supporting players, that makes this a boarding house worthy of repeated visits.’
