Fans of prequel television have been very well looked after recently. “Endeavour,” which featured Shaun Evans playing a young Inspector Morse in 1960s Oxford, has a new four-episode run coming to PBS, and the bloodiest of blockbuster prequel stories arrived recently in the shape of “Hannibal.” What is it that makes prequels so popular?
