“Smash”‘s Hilty To Do “Can-Can” Reading
Yes, I keep watching “Smash,” as this backstage-Broadway TV show counts down to its demise. The latest episode was such a rip-off (or homage) to the backstory of “Rent” (premature death of its creator) that it took my breath away. Meanwhile, everybody on the show is so miserable. You’d never know that people who put together a musical ever have any fun. One of the “Smash” characters who has been able to keep her dignity intact is Megan Hilty, a wonderfully talented singer. She’s about to do a reading of Cole Porter’s 1953 musical “Can-Can,” with Aaron Lazar, prior to a revival on Broadway.
