“House” Star Laurie May Not Get To Play Henry Higgins, So He’s Singing The Blues
In his eight seasons on TV’s recently concluded “House,” Hugh Laurie became a mega-star: In 2011, the Guinness Book of Records anointed him the world’s most watched leading man on television, tallying 81.8 million regular viewers in 66 countries. This popularity, as well as his rightness for the role, is why he, not the other Hugh (Grant), would be my choice to play Henry Higgins in the supposedly about-to-happen movie remake of “My Fair Lady.” (But recent reports have tipped Colin Firth for the role, in the movies and in the upcoming Broadway revival: he’d also be loverly.) Laurie hasn’t been sitting at home, waiting for his Henry Higgins phone to ring. He’s releasing a new CD of the blues, “Didn’t It Rain,” a follow-up to his 2011 blues CD, “Let Them Talk.”
