Tony Award Noms: My FT Analysis
Here’s my Financial Times analysis of today’s Tony Awards nominations. While everyone else fixated on the number of noms for “Kinky Boots” (13) and “Matilda” (12), I seem to be the only commentator who’s noticed how many of the potential acting winners are African-American: including Cicely Tyson (pictured) in “The Trip to Bountiful.” Add that to the fact that “Motown” is the year’s biggest hit, and you’ll see why Broadway has become, wondrously, the Great Black Way.
