Lawrence Of Arabia To Become Miniseries

Roland Emmerich, a successful if not critically appreciated Hollywood director, will produce a six-hour mini-series based on the legendary story of Lawrence of Arabia that FremantleMedia International is developing. The production will center on the heroic journey of British Army officer T.E. Lawrence, who became famous as “Lawrence of Arabia” due to his unique role and relationship with Arab leaders during World War I. He was unsurpassably portrayed in the 1962 movie starring Peter O’Toole (pictured). Fremantle said Michael Korda, a well-known biographer whose works include “Ike,” “Ulysses S. Grant” and “Hero: The Life and Legend of Lawrence of Arabia,” will be the official historical consultant on the project. I hope Korda’s presence means the series won’t be turning Lawrence into some kind of ladies man, the way that Starz current series “Da Vinci’s Demons” has transformed Leonardo da Vinci into a player.
