“Cloud Atlas” Author Writes 3-D Opera
“Sunken Garden” is a new “occult-mystery-film-opera†composed and directed by the Dutchman Michel van der Aa, with a libretto by the British novelist David Mitchell, author of “Cloud Atlas.” Although using atmospheric video is common in modern opera productions, this is the first opera to use 3D technology. “Sunken Garden” premieres tonight at the English National Opera in London. Kate Miller-Heidke (pictured) stars in what Mitchell calls a “bonkers” project.
