As Usual, What Maggie Smith Said Is Priceless
Dame Maggie Smith has been honored with a new painting unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery, in London. James Lloyd, the artist tasked with the commission, reveals that at her initial sitting her first words to him were “poor you.” The six-foot-by-three-foot portrait was created over numerous sittings in the artist’s studio, with sketches in oil and charcoal used to finalize the ideal pose along with a selection of photographs.
