Hollywood Goes Mad For Fine-Art Movies

Are all of America’s Oscar-calibre filmmakers required to release a movie this year that revolves around works of art? George Clooney is filming “Monuments Men,” about priceless art works in Europe during World War II, and Wes Anderson (pictured) has just finished shooting “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” which concerns an Old Master artwork and which features more stars than there were in the MGM Heaven known as “Grand Hotel” to which Anderson is obviously indebted. I hope they don’t think a fine-arty veneer guarantees awards, because it doesn’t.
