My all-time favorite is Rex Harrison as Julius II in the 1965 movie “The Agony and the Ecstasy.” In more recent years I’m partial to Johanna Wokalek (pictured) in the 2009 film “Pope Joan.” Yes, there was a female pontiff in the ninth century. Don’t look for that kind of gender-bender to happen soon.
