“Mockingbird” To Sing In London Town
Robert Sean Leonard (pictured) will star as Atticus Finch in a new stage production of “To Kill A Mockingbird,” adapted from the novel of the same name. Will it be done on Broadway, which has long been a-waitin’ for a version of Miss Harper “Nelle” Lee‘s classic? No: It will begin performances at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park on May 16, prior to an official opening May 22 for a run through June 15. That’s in London. Apparently, Miss Lee thought the British were more deserving right now. Leonard is excellent casting, with just the right mixture of intelligence, gravitas, and charm to make Atticus commanding. The actor will have a busy summer: in July he’s reprising his Henry Higgins in Shaw’s “Pygmalion,” at the Williamstown Theater Festival.
