Munchkins Put On Display Once Again
One of million things that puts me off the new “Oz” movie (apart from the fact that I’ve seen it) is the way the media are using the occasion to pounce on all the surviving performers who played Munchkins in the 1939 “Wizard of Oz.” The Daily Beast tracked down Ruth Duccini, the oldest surviving little person from the classic. She lives in a Las Vegas retirement hotel. But just when you’re feeling a little voyeuristic about eavesdropping on someone in slightly pathetic circumstances, Duccini is asked by the interviewer about the star of the new movie, James Franco. “I don’t know who that is,” she replies. Apparently, she stopped watching the Oscars in 1940.
