Oscars 2014: Early Best-Picture Hopefuls
As with the Presidential race, no sooner is the confetti swept up on one year than the speculation starts on the next contest. So, what are the top prospects for next year? The movie version of “August: Osage County” seems tailor-made for the Academy. It’s a dysfunctional family dramedy (a la “Silver Linings Playbook”); Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts starring; “Argo” producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov; Harvey Weinstein releasing. Problem is that George and Grant just won Best Pic with “Argo,” and even the Clooney-boot-licking Academy may by next time have had enough.
