Mariinsky 2 Causes St. Petersburg Uproar
The new building for the legendary Mariinsky Theatre, which is adjacent to the old Mariinsky, will open to the public in St. Petersburg, Russia in May. But Russian artists, intellectuals, and concerned citizens are collecting signatures, demanding that the new venue — which cost $730 million! — be razed to the ground. The architects had better watch out for acid throwers at the official opening.
