National Theatre: Tori Amos, Interlude

London’s National Theatre has announced its 2013-14 season. What I most look forward to: a new musical by Tori Amos called “The Light Princess” and a production of O’Neill’s “Strange Interlude.” I’ve only seen that play once, in 1984 on Broadway, starring the peerless Glenda Jackson. The demands of the epic O’Neill must have done Glenda in, because shortly after she “retired” to Parliament and a career as a back-bencher. She will step down in 2015. I would sacrifice my first-born to see her onstage again. Oh, and after I saw “Strange Interlude,” I waited at the stage door for Glenda. She not only signed my program; she gave me a ride home in her car. Thrilling.
