Portman’s Hubby To Head Paris Opera Ballet
When we last heard from Benjamin Millepied (pictured), the dancer/choreographer was all atwitter with the mission of bringing kultcha to Los Angeles, in the form of the L.A. Dance Project. Now, it’s been announced that he will take over the venerable Paris Opera Ballet, which has 150 dancers and a Byzantine hierarchy indicative of the fact that it is supported by the French government. Millepied will be moving to Paree with his wife, “Black Swan” star Natalie Portman. And what about little old Los Angeles? Millepied said he planned to continue running the L.A. Dance Project until he began his new job later this year. According to the New York Times, “He said he hoped the company, which has a budget guaranteed for the next three years, would continue.” One of the project’s dancers told me via email, “Paris is the better-looking girl who arrives at the party and snatches away your man.” Yup.
