Dustin Hoffman Directs A “Quartet”
Whenever I need cheering up, I watch the 1982 comedy classic “Tootsie,” starring Dustin Hoffman. The movie’s main character, Michael Dorsey, is an actor and acting coach, so control-obsessed that it’s hard not to think of the character as an extension of Hoffman. Surprising, then, that Hoffman has never directed a movie until now: “Quartet,” about an old-age home for opera singers. Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon star, and the film will be released in limited fashion just before New Year’s. The buzz on the project is very positive. Hoffman talks about “Quartet,” and many other matters, here.
