Vanity Fair bills the feature about Mike Nichols and Elaine May as “The Comedy Duo Gives Their First Major Interview Together Since the Late 1960s.” But I gotta tell you: the story is slim pickings, and I want a four-course meal from these two. Such a banquet will never happen, just as Mr. Nichols professes to have no interest in writing a book about his partnership with Miss May and his life and career in general. “All memoirs basically have the implicit title: ‘How I Got To Be Wonderful,'” Nichols once told me. “And I have no interest in writing that.”
