Vanessa, James Earl To Reunite

Shakespeare: The Geezer Version. That’s how I’m thinking of the news that James Earl Jones, who yes’m-ed Vanessa Redgrave in “Driving Miss Daisy,” is going to switch gears and talk back more forcefully to her in a 2013 production in London of “Much Ado About Nothing.” Yes, the actors are playing Beatrice and Benedick, who are not in the first bloom of youth but to my knowledge have never been considered to be in the wither of old age. The idea is novel enough to have charm, however. I’ve always regretted that Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline never played the parts. I thought they were now too old. Guess not.
