Yule Match-up: “Midwife” Vs. “Downton”?
Rivalries make life worth living. But I don’t think that this is a real rivalry, in spite of the meal the British media are making of it at the moment. I’m talking about the possible match-up, on Christmas Day in Britain, of “Downton Abbey” versus “Call the Midwife.” I don’t think the BBC, which produces the latter, will be daft enough to schedule their Yuletide special against ITV, which does the former. And even if it does, so many people now watch episodes online or on DVR that it doesn’t matter much for the revised rating system. I’ll be watching both in time — very happily, thank you.
