Debate: Is “War Horse” Image Accurate?
The zinger of last night’s Presidential debate was Obama saying to Romney: “You mention the Navy, and how we have fewer ships than 1916. We also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military has changed.” Immediately, the remark went viral, and the above photo got attached to it in the blogosphere. It’s a photo from the movie version of “War Horse.” Of course, the swords that the soldiers and officers are brandishing are not bayonets. They are, however, accurate to the war raging in 1916. The debate itself was depressing: no mention of Europe, no mention of climate change, barely any talk of Afghanistan. Note to candidates: Israel is not the only country in the world aside from the U.S.
