“Mozart: The Rock Opera”: Broadway Bound?
Actually, it’s a French concoction, “Mozart: L’Opera Rock,” and it’s been a big hit in Europe. Its producers, Dove Attia and Albert Cohen, are hoping for a Broadway bow in the spring. Now, just because something is a big hit in Europe doesn’t mean it will ever open on Broadway (cf “Rebecca“). And the very idea of “Mozart” combined with “rock” could give some people headaches. But we’ll see. It features more than 400 costumes and vast casts, which will, for Broadway, have to be reduced as drastically as a Romney/Ryan PBS budget. Meanwhile, the producers’ new production interests me more. It’s called “Les Amants de la Bastille” (pictured), and it’s packing them in in Paris. Ooh-la-la!
