How many times over the past decade have I heard struggling artists tell me that New York is too expensive a place to work on their craft: if only they could move to Berlin, where rents were cheap! Well, the German capital isn’t nearly as cheap as it used to be. According to this article, rents have risen by 40 percent over the past few years, and there’s a nascent backlash against hipster tourists. Next mecca? Detroit!
