Getting Obsessed With Aimee: “Scandalous”
I got so tipsily excited yesterday when I discovered the new website for “Scandalous,” the musical about nypho evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson co-written by Kathie Lee Gifford that is coming to Broadway in October. As the date approaches, I’m getting almost as high as Kathie and Hoda after a morning-show cocktail. I mean, the musical stars Carolee Carmello (right), who is pretty great — although I’m not sure I’d go out on a critical limb as Kathie Lee does on the show’s website and say that Carmello is the greatest singer/actress working in musicals today. (Hello, Audra!) Anyway, as I’ve been thinking about “Scandalous” I’ve decided to watch “Miracle Woman,” the 1931 Barbara Stanwyck (left) flick in which “Missy” (Stanwyck’s nickname: that’s the only time I’ll tell you that) plays a character inspired by Aimee. I’ll let you know what I think.
