Sing Out, Sister! Aimee Arrives On Broadway

Today, July 19th, has always been a lucky day for me, but how could I have expected the gods to shower me this morning with this piece of news: “Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson,” will open on Broadway this October. Why am I so eager to see the show? Well, it’s not everyday that you have the opportunity to witness singing and dancing in the service of a quasi-nymphomaniac who brought the Word of Christ to the masses. I haven’t been so juiced about a new show with religious overtones since Dean Jones, in 1986, bounded onto Broadway in “Into the Light, about the Shroud of Turin. Oh, and did I mention that one of the authors (book, music, lyrics) of “Scandalous” is morning TV’s Kathie Lee Gifford? My dream would be to see Kathie Lee herself get onstage as Aimee, but Carolee Carmello (pictured) ain’t exactly bargain-basement casting. Whoo-hoo!
