In spite of my love for Seth “Family Guy” McFarlane, I just can’t bring myself to see “Ted,” about a potty-mouthed teddy bear. Television: There’s a new Inspector Morse (a young Inspector Morse) on Sunday’s Masterpiece Mystery. “The Newsroom” is worth checking out — so far. Music: Rush? No. Smashing Pumpkins? Yes!
“Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett: The CBS Television Specials” is an absolute joy. Books: Alan Furst’s novel “Mission to Paris” looks tantalizing. Dave Eggers has a new novel? Take the plunge. Sports: Olympic trials in swimming and gymnastics dominate the weekend. Finally: We’re moving into the hottest week of the year. Stay cool!
