Of the long and illustrious career of Maurice Sendak, the author who has just died, here are my two favorites. 1) Last January, he made an unforgettable appearance on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” during which he left host Stephen Colbert and the audience in fits of laughter. “I don’t write for children,†he told Colbert. “I like them as few and far between as I do adults.†2) Sendak lived with his partner, psychiatrist Eugene Glynn, for 50 years before Glynn died of lung cancer in 2007.
