Cruise: Who Does He Think He’s Fooling?
I’m expecting to find Tom Cruise’s performance as Stacee Jaxx in Adam Shankman’s “Rock of Ages” (New Line/Warner Bros., 6.15) completely camp, whether or not it’s intended to be so. But something about this perhaps unintentionally camp image from W doesn’t work. Cruise simply isn’t believable as a Steven Tyler-ish rock ‘n’ roll sex god. Cruise has succeeded massively by playing people who are super-determined, not guys who are super-horny: in any direction.
