Girls, Girls, Girls: More HBO Hype?
Sometimes I think the link between members of the New York-based “lamestream media” and the television powerhouse known as HBO should be investigated by the FTC. How else to explain the relentless cheerleading done by New York newspapers and magazines each time HBO launches a series? Latest example: “Girls,” starring Jemima Kirke, Lena Dunham, and Zosia Mamet (pictured), which premieres this weekend. The idea that it’s the most super-insightful, oh-my-God amazing view of young women ever assembled is just tosh. And, yes, I’ve seen the first episode so I know whereof I speak.
