“Carrie” Revival: Reviews Are Pretty Bloody
I was one of the three people who saw the musical “Carrie” on Broadway in 1988, and I can tell you that it was one of the most unforgettable nights of my life. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a musical number about menstruation, or another about the blood of a pig. The show has been revised and revived off-Broadway, starring Molly Ranson (pictured); I haven’t seen it yet, because I’m concerned about marring my memories. But the thing did officially open last night, and the reviews (roundup here) are fairly bloody. Joe Dziemianowicz of the New York Daily News seems to speak for the majority of critics when he says, “It’s not bad enough to be campy fun or stirring enough to really embrace.”
