Terrific: Bunny In “That Ain’t No Lady!”
My only quibble with Lady Bunny‘s deservedly long-running show at New York’s La Escuelita Cabaret Theater has to do with the title: “That Ain’t No Lady!” Bunny, who founded the long lamented outdoor drag extravaganza Wigstock, is from the South, so I would have preferred that this 90-minute evening, featuring hilariously filthy comedy and painfully accurate parodies of pop culture, be called “That T’aint No Lady!” Nothing else t’ainted the performance for me. The New York Times described Bunny’s signature look as “Dusty Springfield rendered as a Thanksgiving parade float.” That’s an insult to Bunny, who is way more consistently entertaining than ole Dusty ever was. I loved the way Bunny involves the audience in her act, and want to thank her for not putting her laser-beam spotlight on me. The show runs every Tuesday at 8 pm. Go!
