New “Upstairs Downstairs” Premieres On BBC
Still mired in the second season of “Downton Abbey,” which concluded on American television last night? That’s so yesterday! Across the pond, they are already on to the second season of the “Upstairs Downstairs” reboot. The first season was decidedly inferior to “Downton,” which caused all kinds of growling and grunting amongst those indubitable “Upstairs” creators, Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins. Even the pro-aristocracy, crusty Telegraph isn’t buying the new episode, which stars Keeley Hawes and Ed Stoppard (pictured): ‘[Upstairs] still lacks a convincing script. Watching it dressed in all its fine pre-war glory (men digging trenches, crowds queuing for gas masks), you feel you have got all the trimmings of a great meal but no meat.’
