View of the Hollywood sign after California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made the announcement that sufficient money had been raised to purchase and protect the land around the historic Hollywood sign in Hollywood on April 26, 2010. One of the City of Angels’ most beloved attractions, views of the sign were in jeopardy and the group needed to find 12.5 million dollars to purchase the 138-acre (55-hectare) parcel of rugged land surrounding the sign from a Chicago-based consortium that had acquired rights to build four luxury mansions along the ridgeline. Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner made the final donation of $900,000 to reach the 12.5 million dollars required to complete the sale.
