Why Film “Great Gatsby” In 3-D?
The other night, I told the Object of My Affection that I didn’t understand why Baz Luhrmann had to film “The Great Gatsby,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, in 3-D. Object, for whom the director’s “Romeo and Juliet” and “Moulin Rouge” are as revered as World of Warcraft (well, almost), gave me the look that said: This Is What I Get For Dating Someone As Old As My Mom. But the question keeps nagging: why spiff up F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s story? This writer gives ten things to look forward to about the 3-D version. My fave: The green light, right in your face, coming right at you.
