Your Weekend: LW Recommends

Movies: “Contraband,” with Marky Mark, is doing better with audiences than with critics. “Beauty and the Beast 3D” marks the beginning in 2012 of all the screen classics that have been made fit for funny glasses. “Titanic” and “Star Wars” are on the way. Television: Anna Deavere Smith’s “Let Me Down Easy,” Friday on PBS, is worth watching. Sunday brings the Golden Globes, with the amusing, annoying Ricky Gervais as host. Music: Am surprised Snow Patrol is doing so well with “Fallen Empires.” The new Van Halen CD is built for boomers. Books: I’m meaning to read P.D. James’s Jane-Austen-inspired new mystery, “Death Comes To Pemberley.” While watching Tim Tebow lose to Tom Brady this weekend, I plan to thumb through Tebow’s tract, “Through My Eyes.” Sports: I’m hoping the Giants can slide past the Packers in Green Bay. Forecast at game time is a balmy 20 degrees. Finally: Commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by pursuing your dreams, personal and political.
