Hitler Favorite Dies At 108
Dutch-born entertainer Johannes Heesters (pictured), who made his name performing in Adolf Hitler’s Germany and was dogged later in his long career by controversy over his Nazi-era past, died Saturday, his agent said. (Yah, he still had an agent.) Heesters was 108. My favorite part of the obit is when, in 1964, Heesters tries to return to the Netherlands to perform and is booed off the stage. His role? The Nazi-hating Captain Von Trapp in “The Sound of Music,” a movie known to Christopher Plummer, the screen purveyor, as “S & M.”
