Critics: Top 11 Movies Of 2011
The Oscars take place in L.A., but the season got officially underway this week in New York, with last night’s Gotham Awards and today’s New York Film Critics voting. But let’s take a moment to salute what another critics’ group, an international one polled by Sight and Sound magazine, has already decided are the top 11 movies of the year. Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” (whose Jessica Chastain is pictured) led the list. That wouldn’t have been my choice (it tries too hard to be “cinematic”), nor would I have included dreck like “Melancholia.” But the list at least brings attention to some movies that might otherwise be overlooked.
