Irish Jig Dancers: New Competition
Some cultural types argue that reality television has been a boon for dance. Millions of Americans now know what “paso doble” means. I’m a little more skeptical: most of the dancing on reality shows is pretty abysmal: high-energy at best, vulgar and ungraceful more often. But the appetite for this stuff is bottomless: TLC has announced a new program that’s Riverdance meets “Toddlers & Tiaras.” Just what we need: a new series about the competitive world of Irish jig dancing with the working title, “Irish Dancing Tweens.”
