“Quadrophenia” In Quad Sound

To mark the remastered edition of The Who’s 1973 rock opera, Pete Townshend is opening up his Quadrophenia-era archives. (Trailer from the 1979 movie version is above.) Comments The Independent: ‘”Quadrophenia” is the last of the band’s back catalogue to be given the deluxe treatment. Never has an album with a more appropriate title been remastered for quadraphonic sound than “Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut.” To celebrate the vaguely wonderful ridiculousness of transforming it into the sound equivalent of high definition, Pete Townshend will allow the world to rootle around in past to discover the scrawled notes, lyrics and ideas and photographs from the three years which inspired the album’s creation.’
