Mormons Baptized Anne Frank
Did you enjoy the Republican debate insults last night? I make it a rule never to watch the whole thing: the number of flouted facts increases my blood pressure too much. Besides, while some of you were watching the debate, I was absorbing more weird and wacky facts about the faith of Mitt Romney: Mormonism. From the New York Times, we learned that Romney used to be a Mormon bishop and he once showed up unannounced at a hospital in that role. He “sternly†warned a married mother of four, who was considering terminating a pregnancy because of a potentially dangerous blood clot, not to go forward. I also learned from Christopher Hitchens about some of the folks whom the Mormons retroactively baptized in their faith. One of them was Anne Frank. I will say one thing in defense of the Mormons: their fairy tales are only slightly more outlandish than the beliefs of most other religious adherents. Small comfort, however.
