Artists Give Birth, Take Dumps
This month, a Brooklyn artist will give birth at a gallery in a controversial exhibit. (I won’t be there, thanks.) Meanwhile, other women have started posting raw videos of their labor online. No surprise: we live in a world where people consider it a badge of honor to do everything for public viewing. I have heard of a performance-art project in the works where two “artists” take a dump, with cameras in the toilet bowls to record the plop, which will be blown up on video screens in real time. Yes, kids, this is Planet Earth 2011.
