Depp Attached To “Thin Man”
Johnny Depp is attached to star in a new version of “The Thin Man,” which will be an adaptation of the Dashiell Hammett novel that most people know through the old-Hollywood movie versions with William Powell and Myrna Loy. I must confess that I think a remake of “The Thin Man” is a terrible idea. Not only because old-school sophistication is essentially impossible to revive in our century but because the “Thin Man” brand of sophistication is predicated on alcohol being, fundamentally, funny. Not Irish-tragic or heading-for-A.A. glum.
