Swede Poet Wins Nobel Lit Prize

The Swedish poet Tomas Transtromer today won the Nobel Prize in Literature. I have never read any translations of his work, so I cannot speak about it. I have long criticized the literature committee’s bias in favor of European winners: 8 out of the past 10. The committee’s permanent secretary, Peter Englund, tried to deflect this criticism by saying that “one should keep in mind that it soon 40 years” since a Swede won the prize.
