HBO Oks Tysonesque Boxing Show
I would have thought that after James Toback‘s first-rate documentary about Mike Tyson (“Tyson”) and Mike’s appearances in the “Hangover” movies that we wouldn’t need to be pummeled with any more Tysoniana for awhile. HBO apparently doesn’t agree. It has ordered a pilot for “Da Brick,” a boxing drama directed by Spike Lee and loosely based on the former heavyweight champion‘s early life in the ring. Hmm. Isn’t Tyson trying hard these days to be a family man and to keep a distance from boxing? Won’t a show about his crazy early days dredge up the old image? Or will it serve to remind Mike just how much he’s calmed down with the help of his pigeons?
