Queen’s Portraits: Few Measure Up
A new exhibition celebrates the Queen’s forthcoming Diamond Jubilee and looks at how the sovereign has been portrayed in photographs, documentary films, and paintings over the 60 years of her reign, from newsreel footage of her coronation to Lucian Freud’s 2001 portrait. The photograph above is not in the exhibition: it is a new portrait by the German artist Thomas Struth. Her Madge, of course, is better lit than Philip.
