“Dirty Dancing” Remake: Bad Idea?
The 1987 movie hit “Dirty Dancing” will be remade. Which prompts the eternal question: Can you think of a single classic movie that has been better the second time around? Much of the charm of “DD” arose from the fact that it was a low-budget movie that had miraculously survived a difficult shoot to make it into cinemas. The remake, to be directed by Kenny Ortega (“High School Musical”), will have to be full of quick-cut, swoop-de-doo editing reminiscent of “Dancing with the Stars.” (A show that “DD”‘s original star, Jennifer Grey, of course, recently won.) Does anyone think a retread makes sense at all?
