Inspector Morse Has Gotten Younger
Since the death of Inspector Morse, those of us who watch “Masterpiece Mystery” on PBS have had to content ourselves with Inspector Lynley and with Morse’s deputy, Inspector Lewis. Well, even though Morse died, his spirit didn’t. How else to explain the announcement that ITV will be making a prequel about Morse’s early days in the force? (It will star Shaun Evans, left.) But I’m not sure that audiences will cotton to a junior version of the character played by John Thaw (right) — a man once summed up by his creator, Colin Dexter, as “melancholy, sensitive, vulnerable, independent, ungracious and mean-pocketed.”
