Further Adventures In New Harmony
While walking, biking, and golf-carting around New Harmony Indiana this week, I have seen many sights: yesterday, for example, brought me to the Roofless Church, designed by Philip Johnson and a coveted site for wedding ceremonies. For this 1960 building, Johnson’s concept was that only one roof — the sky — could embrace all worshipping humanity. Such architectural marvels have brightened my Indiana stay, but I have been especially impressed by all the trees in this town. Sycamores, oaks, hackberries, even the occasional elm: the arboreal riches are stunning. Even greater splendor must result in the autumn.
