Cusack Set For “The Paperboy”

John Cusack is set to co-star in “The Paperboy,” director Lee Daniels’s first film since 2010 Oscar winner, “Precious.” Cusack will play a death row prisoner convicted of killing the local sheriff in Moat County, Florida. Tobey Maguire had taken the role, before he was forced to pull out due to a scheduling clash with Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of “The Great Gatsby.” “The Paperboy” is based on the book of the same name by US national book award winner, Pete Dexter. The film follows an investigative reporter who suspects Cusack’s character was wrongly imprisoned due to a miscarriage of justice. The film will star Zac Efron, while Matthew McConaughey and Nicole Kidman are expected to take key roles, with Kidman thought to be playing Charlotte Bless, who falls in love with Cusack’s character after writing to him on death row.
