Glenn Over Meryl For Best Actress?
Me and Rex (that would be Rex Okpodu, LW’s Oscar obsessive) have been going on and on about how Meryl Streep’s turn as Maggie Thatcher in “The Irony Lady” may finally grab La Streep the third Oscar she’s been awaiting for thirty years. But in fact, Glenn Close, lately beloved for TV’s “Damages,” is much more overdue. She’s been nommed five times and never won. Well, her fortune may undergo a reversal (get the reference?) with the release later this year of “Albert Nobbs,” in which Glennie plays a gender-swap role in a drama set in 1860s Dublin. Wouldn’t it be delish if an Irishman/woman knocked out a British Prime Minister in the Oscar derby?
